More Oregon sheriffs say they may defy new gun bans

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The number of Oregon sheriffs who might defy President Barack Obama's new gun laws continues to grow.

On Wednesday, the Douglas, Jackson, Coos and Curry County sheriffs joined the Crook and Linn County sheriffs in refusing to enforce any gun law they find unconstitutional.

It all started Tuesday in Linn County when Sheriff Tim Mueller wrote a letter to the Vice President Joe Biden and now the other sheriffs have done the same.

"(They're) making criminals out of honest citizens. That's not the right path to go down," Mueller said.

All the sheriffs said they're against any legislation that would prevent law-abiding citizens from having certain firearms and ammunition magazines.

Mueller's letter was posted on Facebook and has 45,000 likes and has been shared 54,000 times.

"Any federal regulation enacted by Congress or by executive order of the president offending the constitutional rights of my citizens shall not be enforced by me or by my deputies," Mueller wrote. "Nor will I permit the enforcement of any unconstitutional regulations or orders by federal officers within the borders of Linn County, OR."
