Prized pigeons on display at national show in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

The pigeons you might find at Esther Short Park are very different from the ones you will see inside the Hilton Vancouver Washington this weekend.

The Vancouver hotel is hosting the National Pigeon Association's 2013 Grand National Show and Convention. The festivities got under way Jan. 17 and will run through Saturday.

Participants are showcasing more than 200 breeds totaling more than 3,500 prized pedigree pigeons overall.

The exhibition pigeons will be judged on the standard of perfection, using a guide for the breeder in producing show pigeons that closely resemble the ideal bird. They are rated on a scale of 0-100.

The three-day event is free and open to the public. Bird viewing times are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
