LAKE OSWEGO, OR (KPTV) -

A Lake Oswego woman received a phone call Friday morning from her mother.

It was Diana Laboy-Rush's 39th birthday, so she assumed her mom was calling to wish her a happy birthday.

When she answered, Laboy-Rush said her mom immediately told her to hang on and she handed the phone to someone else.

Then a man spoke.

"Happy birthday child," the man said. "This is Vice President Joe Biden."

Laboy-Rush's mother works for a government contractor and was invited to attend the inaugural breakfast reception with President Barack Obama Friday.

At the end of the event she went through the reception line to meet the president and vice president and scribbled on a napkin, "Happy Birthday, Diana."

She asked Biden if he would pose for a photo with the napkin, but he did one better.

The vice president told her to get her daughter on the phone so he could wish her a happy birthday.

Laboy-Rush said she felt like it may have been a recording at first.

"So I waited a little bit and he was waiting for me to talk back," she said.

Laboy-Rush said Biden asked her about her plans for her birthday and wrapped up the call by telling her to have a great day.

"I've had a lot of good things happen on my birthday," she said. "This is probably the tip of the iceberg."
