FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

Ten law enforcement officers have been placed on paid administrative leave and an 11th is charged with attempted aggravated murder after a shooting in Forest Grove Sunday night.

Deputies were called out to the home of Timothy Cannon, 46, at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday after a domestic disturbance was reported between the officer and his wife, investigators said.

Deputies said they tried talking to Cannon, but he barricaded himself inside his home.

SWAT officers and Forest Grove police were also called to the scene.

At one point, officers made their way inside the home. Shots were fired, investigators said. During the exchange, a Washington County sheriff's deputy was shot in the hand.

Cannon has been a Hillsboro police officer assigned to the patrol division for the past 13 years. He is charged with attempted aggravated murder.

Neighbors told FOX 12 that officers went door to door to evacuate those living nearby to a church.

"All of our neighbors in this neighborhood are really nice, and everyone we meet is wonderful," said Amanda Clark, who lives in the area. "There's a lot of kids in the neighborhood and obviously go to school with all of them."

One man who is just about to move into the neighborhood said he was told how quiet the area was, especially because a number of Hillsboro and Forest Grove police officers live along the street.

"I don't really know what to think," Jay Deuitch said. "I wasn't expecting it."

The sheriff's deputy shot in the hand was treated and released from a local hospital. Cannon was also taken to the hospital and released.

"It's very unusual," said Sgt. Dave Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. "Occasionally we'll come across other officers in our line of work who are off duty and having some issues, but I can't think of another time when there have been shots fired in an officer's residence."

Cannon was given an Oregon Peace Officers Association "Life Saving Award" just last year.

Investigators said his wife and 6-year-old daughter were in the home but not harmed during the incident.

Ten officers were put on administrative leave after firing their guns during the incident. Investigators said that includes five from the Forest Grove Police Department, four from the Washington County Sheriff's Office and one Hillsboro officer that was not Cannon.
