VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

A FOX 12 viewer helped turn a sad story into a happy one for a Vancouver man and his daughter.

DeWayne Ernesti discovered just before Christmas that someone had stolen an angel statue from his yard. The statue was a reminder of his late wife Adella, who died in 2009.

He had collected nearly 400 angels during his many travels as a Merchant Marine, and they meant a lot to Adella during their long marriage.

A Fox 12 viewer, who wishes to remain anonymous, saw the story, and then jumped into action by calling area businesses. She found a company that agreed to donate a replacement statue.

It was dropped off Tuesday at the Ernesti home.

"I think Adella is looking down from heaven smiling," Ernesti said when he saw the statue.

His daughter, Theo, said she is also overwhelmed, noting that two other strangers donated smaller angel statues.

They plan to have the statue in the kitchen where Ernesti spends so much of his time.
