The family of a local teen found dead along Highway 6 issued a public statement Tuesday as they prepare to lay her to rest.

A celebration of Kayla Hendrickon's life is set for Saturday at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel located at 207 Villa Road in Newberg. The service is scheduled to run from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is open to family and friends.

Police think Jacob Green shot and killed the 16-year-old east of Tillamook Friday night before taking his own life in northern California.

In a statement, Hendrickson's family said:

"Kayla Hendrickson was a beautiful, outgoing and nurturing young woman. She has so many friends and family that love her so much. Anyone that knew her would definitely tell you she had her own unique personality. She had a free spirit, was a total country girl and could be counted on to make you laugh and smile. If your mood was upside down, she could help turn it right-side up in a second. Kayla had so many aspirations in life and cherished her friends, sisters, nieces and nephews."

Family said Hendrickson just received her GED and planned to go to college in the spring.

A memorial fund has been setup through any US Bank to help the family with funeral-related expenses."
