Sellwood Bridge reopening today

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Sellwood Bridge will reopen to traffic at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after a week-long closure to set up a detour bridge.

The bridge was scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. on Jan. 24, but the contractor was able to complete work ahead of schedule.

It closed to traffic at 5 a.m. on Jan. 17. Since then, crews have moved the bridge over to its detour spot.

Multnomah County Commissioner Deborah Kafoury will be in the first car to cross the detour bridge when it reopens at 3:30 p.m.

The speed limit on the detour bridge is 25 mph. It was reduced from the 30 mph limit on the old bridge due to curves that are part of the detour bridge design at the east and west ends and because it is near a construction zone.
