MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -
Providence Health & Services is discontinuing baby delivery services at its Milwaukie hospital starting June 1.
The decision is expected to save Providence $2 million per year over the next five years. It will also allow the organization to expand services at the Portland hospital, according to a Providence spokesman.
The change will affect around 20 employees. Staff members were notified on Jan. 8.
Providence Milwaukie Hospital will still offer prenatal and postnatal care and emergency deliveries could still be handled there if a birth is imminent, according to the hospital.
Doctors who have current patients set to deliver in Milwaukie may be able to do so at one of Providence's other locations, but specific details are still being worked out.
