Camas police investigating parent’s disturbing Facebook post

Authorities are investigating an alarming post on Facebook that was made by a parent who attended a basketball game at Camas High School Tuesday evening.

The school said the post was made by a parent of a Skyview High School basketball player after a game against Camas High School.

The post said, "Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!! I hope someone shoots up their school really soon!!!!!!!!!!"

The post was discovered after district officials said the parent was involved in a verbal altercation with a group of Camas High School students and insulted them.

"Kids and parents showed it to us on their phones," said Athletic Director Josh Gibson.

Gibson wasn't sure when the post was made but it was discovered after the argument and the parent left.

"In this day and age it's something that we don't joke about," said Gibson. "There have been a lot of tragedies recently having to do with that."

The school sent an email to parents letting them know about the issue which said, "We want to assure you that we will remain vigilant about your students' safety today and in the future."

According to the school, Camas police and the Clark County Sheriff's Office are now investigating and have banned the parent from Camas School District property. Officers said they view the post as a non-specific threat that does not pose a credible danger to students.

"To see a parent post something like that, especially with everything that's gone on lately, it's just shocking," said parent Christine Gittings.

The parent later deleted his Facebook post and wrote a new message on his account that said, "In no way shape or form do I wish harm on any human being."

It now appears the man deleted his account.

FOX 12 tried to get in touch with the parent, who we are not identifying because he has not been charged with a crime. We were unable to reach him for comment.
