Milwaukie police located a missing 8-year-old girl who wandered away from home Thursday night.
The girl was last seen at her home near Southeast 40th and Llewellyn Street at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. She was later found safe at a nearby Taco Bell, according to police.
Investigators said she got in trouble at school and her mother told her to clean her room. When the mom went to check on the girl around 20 minutes later, she was gone and the back door was open.
Police went door-to-door searching for her. A code-red emergency message was also sent out to people and businesses in the Milwaukie area.
The manager at Taco Bell recognized the child based on the description provided in the recording and called police.
"I walked up to the little girl and I was like, ‘Is everything OK? Are you alright,'" said manager Keith Coffman. "She's like, ‘Yeah, I'm fine.'"
Officers didn't consider the situation suspicious, but they were concerned because she was believed to be alone.
