Wilsonville man accused of killing puppy with kitchen knife

Posted: Updated:

A 28-year-old Wilsonville man told deputies he purchased a $300 puppy and then killed it only a few hours later, according to the sheriff's office.

Kevin Slabaugh called 911 on Sunday at 11 a.m. and told dispatchers he used a kitchen knife to kill his dog the night before, deputies said.

When deputies responded to the Bridge Creek Apartments on Rose Lane, where Slabaugh lives alone, Slabaugh repeatedly told them he "bought it and killed it," referring to his 2 1/2-month-old puppy.

Slabaugh purchased the dog the night before at Critter Cabana in Wilsonville, and then killed it a few hours later, sheriff's deputies said.

He showed the deputies where he killed the puppy, where he hid the dog and the knife he used during the crime, according to the sheriff's office.

Slabaugh didn't reveal a motive or a reason for his actions, but said he had been drinking a lot of alcohol and taking prescription medications leading up to the time the crime happened.

Deputies arrested Slabaugh on one count of first-degree aggravated animal abuse with a bail set at $15,000.
