A man accused of carrying an Uzi in his coat into a northeast Portland barbershop is facing criminal charges.

Police were called to Northeast 12th and Alberta at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday after witnesses reported seeing the man carrying the weapon from his car into the business.

Officers arrived and watched over the scene, in the event the man was planning to commit an armed robbery.

The suspect left the barber shop and got into a car, at which point officers stopped him without incident.

Investigators said an Uzi 9mm caliber rifle was located on the back seat of the vehicle.

Ryan Presley, 30, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of certain short-barreled firearms. Police said the short barrel on the gun makes it illegal.

The gun was not loaded and no ammunition was recovered.

Police said Presley legally purchased the gun, but did not have a concealed weapons permit.

Investigators said he had brought the gun to show a friend.
