A 3.7 magnitude earthquake hit four miles north of Yacolt Wednesday evening.
Fox 12 received dozens of calls and emails from people who felt it from Yacolt to Camas to downtown Vancouver and even into Oregon.
Tony DeFreece, who owns New Awakenings gift shop in Battleground, also felt the earthquake. DeFreece and his wife Debbie are thankful it didn't damage any of their fragile merchandise. Their store shelves are lined with rare gems, crystals and breakable glass items.
"I was like, ‘Please stop! I've got all this stuff, I don't want it on the floor.'"
The U.S. Geological Survey said it happened at 5:03 p.m. at a depth of 4.7 miles.
"This is the best type of earthquake we could have," said Dr. Scott Burns, a geology professor at Portland State University. "A lot of people are going to feel it in the area but no damage and nobody's going to get hurt. But it reminds us that we are in earthquake country and we need to be thinking about that."
There have been no reports of any injuries or serious damage linked to the earthquake.
