Student arrested for chemical spill at school pleads guilty

Posted: Updated:

A 14-year-old accused of causing a chemical spill at Skyview High School will spend 15 days in a juvenile detention center.

The freshman boy was arrested Jan. 24 after police said he brought a bottle full of ammonia and bleach to school, held it up to two other students and asked them to inhale the toxic substance.

A student pushed the bottle away and the chemical mix spilled onto the floor. Seven people, including students and teachers, had to be taken to the hospital.

The boy was arraigned in court Friday and immediately pleaded guilty to charges of assault and reckless endangering, along with delivery of marijuana in a separate case.

He was sentenced to 15 days in a juvenile detention facility, with credit for one day already served, along with 64 hours of community services. He was ordered to pay various fines and fees and will spend one year on probation.

The student was expelled from school before his arrest.
