PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A local cross-country skier is recovering after being rescued on Mt. Hood.
Crews said the 45-year-old was taking pictures off the trail when he slipped on some ice and hurt his hip Saturday evening.
The first call came into the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office around 8 p.m.
Thirty volunteer rescuers used mountain wave communications and cell phone transmissions to find the skier.
They finally rescued him around 11:15 a.m. Sunday
Crews took him to Timberline Lodge and later transferred him to Legacy Emanuel.
He was listed in good condition as of Monday morning.
They said he was lucky that his cell phone was working and that he could call 911 and they could us GPS to find his location.
