PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A former elementary school volunteer in Sandy who sexually abused a student will spend 35 years in prison.
Kenneth Cartlidge was sentenced Monday for charges in three sex abuse cases. He pleaded guilty in November 2012 to charges including sex abuse, using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct and rape.
He was arrested in September 2011 on sex abuse charges involving a child from the Oregon Trail School District in Sandy.
Investigators said he volunteered in the district, primarily at Firwood Elementary School, for two years.
He was supposed to be sentenced on Jan. 25, but authorities said he refused to cooperate with jail and court workers. The date was reset to Monday.
As part of his sentencing, Cartlidge also must register as a sex offender and faces post-prison supervision for life.
