LONGVIEW, WA (KPTV) -

Cowlitz County sheriff's deputies arrested four people Saturday night in connection with an illegal logging operation.

Deputies went to Ocean Beach Highway after someone reported a timber theft.

Deputy Marc Johnson found Guy Daniel Johnson, 62, Joel Scott Stehman, 40, and Clayton Richard Olsen, 42, all of Longview, involved in the theft.

Authorities say more than 20 cedar trees had been cut down on the property owned by Bob Portner.

Portner, who had recently had his land surveyed, showed deputies that the theft had happened more than 100 feet into his land.

Olsen admitted he had a felony conviction for timber theft on his record from 2005.

The value of the timber has been determined to be $7,800.

The men reported they were logging for Jenny Gemar of Longview.

Gemar, who has lived adjacent to the Portners Property, showed Deputy Johnson an application from DNR to harvest timber.

That was dated January 2010.

All four people were arrested for second-degree theft and violation of Specialized Forrest Harvest Products Permit.
