Sheriff's office finds owner of pizza-loving dog

Marion County deputies have found the owner of a Siberian husky who wears a collar bearing the words "Don't Mess With My Food."

A Salem family encountered the dog when they returned home from grocery shopping Tuesday afternoon.

Alondra Figuroa, 19, noticed the husky in her neighbor's yard, and paid little attention to it as she unloaded her grandmother's wheelchair from the back of her SUV.

But her attention was soon drawn to the sound of the barking husky, and she found the dog in the backseat of her car.

The dog was devouring a pepperoni pizza that was intended to be the Salem family's dinner that night.

As Figuroa tried to scare away the dog, it became aggressive, so she called the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Senior Deputy Martin Bennett responded and found the dog still munching on the pizza when he arrived. His attempts to coax the dog out of the SUV were met with the same aggressive behavior. Finally, Marion County's Dog Control Unit was able to remove the husky and take it to the county dog shelter, where it was held until deputies could locate the owner.

Just as the sheriff's office began to notify the public about the dog, the owners came forward to reclaim the pup, named Eysak. Apparently, he escaped from the family's backyard after a gate was left open.

The owner is asked to call Marion County Dog Services at 503-316-6690.
