HAPPY VALLEY, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters responded to a fire at an apartment complex near the Clackamas Town Center Wednesday night. Investigators said a built-in sprinkler system prevented more extensive damage.

About 10:30 p.m., tenants at the Town Center Station Apartments, in the 8700 block of Southeast Monterey Avenue, called 911 to report a fire in the building.

Clackamas Fire crews arrived to find heavy black smoke from the second story. Nearby tenants were quickly evacuated.

When firefighters got inside the building, they found the fire had already been extinguished by a built-in fire sprinkler system. Fire crews then performed some overhaul to prevent further damage.

No one was hurt.

While the fire was confined to one unit, three units total have damage and are uninhabitable. The Red Cross helped three people with temporary housing and essentials.

Fire investigators have ruled the cause of the fire to be accidental. Damage estimates to the building and contents are not available at this time.
