FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke to a packed church as he celebrated Black History Month. He visited Macedonia Baptist Church on Sunday morning.

The civil rights advocate stressed the importance of remembering the past while moving forward. He said social issues like poverty and racial discrimination still haunt people today.

Jackson talked about the need to address crime and gun violence.

"Guns in, drugs in, jobs out - it's a toxic combination," said Jackson.

Church members thought his words were uplifting.

"Great message, right on point with what's going on now in the world and we need to claim our streets our families back," said church member Ondria Curry.
