PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A man accused of driving drunk and hitting and killing a 20-year-old woman in Old Town has posted bail and is out of jail.
A judge Monday morning reduced the bail of Brent Warstler from $300,000 to $50,000. The jail initially reported he had posted bail later that day, but issues with paperwork delayed his release.
He was out of jail at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday with a number of conditions to his release.
His attorneys said Warstler has no criminal history, a long work history and he could go back to work and be productive if he was to be released. Warstler has been employed as a heavy lift crane operator.
Prosecutors argued against reducing bail, as did the family of Rebecca Bray.
Bray was waiting for a ride home early in the morning Jan. 20 with her friend Brandi Butner, 21. Police said Warstler was driving under the influence when he ran a red light and crashed into them on the sidewalk.
Prosecutors said Warstler was driving at least 40 mph in a 20 mph zone.
The women were celebrating a friend's 21st birthday before the crash. Butner was badly hurt, but survived.
Warstler's attorney said he is a volunteer firefighter and tried to perform CPR on one of the victims.
His attorney said Warstler had only $5,000 in savings. As part of his release, he must wear a GPS and alcohol-monitoring bracelet, attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and impact panels.
He also needs court permission to drive.
Warstler is set to face trial March 14.
