Police seek to return stolen property to rightful owners

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police are trying to return hundreds of stolen items to their rightful owners.

Crooks took them from homes in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties. Police arrested the suspects several months ago and - at that time - confiscated $100,000 worth of goods. Months later, authorities found another cache of goods after further investigating, police said.

The recently discovered items have more sentimental value than dollar value, but police said they want to give the public a chance to claim these items before they go up for auction.

The Lake Oswego police department has them on display right now and they range from old newspaper clippings from World War II to instruments to other collectibles.

All the items were found in Woodburn and turned over by a flea market vendor who said he didn't realize they were stolen goods when he bought them, police said.

The items will be on display until Feb. 20 and police will hold on to them for a couple months afterward before they are sent to auction.

Police ask that victims call them at 503-635-0350 to set up an appointment and be able to provide a copy of their police reports filed after the burglaries.
