Authorities investigate suspicious house fire in NE Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters are investigating a string of fires set at a home in Northeast Portland. The fires started in two bedrooms of a home on NE Humboldt near NE 82nd Ave., firefighters said.  Witnesses called to report heavy smoke coming from the front door.

"It was just bellowing out of there, and out of the side of the house," Neighbor Becky Iggulden said.

Once inside, firefighters discovered two fires burning in different locations of the house. Crews were able to knock the flames down quickly. Now they're calling the fires suspicious.

"The windows were broken, and I could hear them crunching around on the glass inside, Iggulden said. "And the curtains were on fire. It was really scary."

A man was home at the time of the fires. Paramedics took him to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fires are under investigation.
