MOUNT HOOD, OR (KPTV) -

The largest volunteer ski patrol in the nation is looking for new recruits.

Mount Hood Ski Patrol is hosting tryouts March 3 for skiers and snowboarders who are interested in joining the team.

There are more than 300 volunteers who currently provide rescue and emergency services as part of the ski patrol. Organizers are planning to add 32 more people to the group for the 2013-2014 season.

The ski patrol serves Timberline, Summit, Mt. Hood Ski Bowl, Mt. Hood Meadows and the back country of the mountain.

The tryouts will begin with a morning meeting in Government Camp, followed by a personal interview and a ski test. The test covers a wide variety of terrain and conditions.

Participants who are accepted into the apprentice training program for 2013-2014 will spend the season gaining necessary first aid and on-hill training to become a full patroller.

For more details about the available positions and how to apply, go to MtHoodSkiPatrol.org.

Preregistration is required by Feb. 24.
