Big names in music play CCA benefit concert in Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Some of music's biggest names were in Portland on Wednesday night for a very special event.

KD Lang and members of the Decemberists were just of the few artists who performed at the Aladdin Theater at an event aimed at benefiting the Children's Cancer Association.

The event started with the idea that music can play a big role for kids who are fighting cancer.

The CCA says taking a moment to laugh, play and just be a kid makes a world of difference.

Chris Funk, of The Decemberists, and his wife came up with the idea to get a group of big-name musicians together to do a benefit concert to raise funds for CCA.

Members of his band, plus Peter Buck and Storm Large, all took to the stage for the sold-out concert.

"Just going and seeing the programs at Doernbecher Children's Hospital and all the other children's hospitals in the area, we were just touched by how they reach people and reach their families," Funk said.

"It's Valentine's Day, and love is in the air, and we feel their love wrapped around the shoulders of kids in their greatest moment of need, and we thank them because this is extraordinary," CCA Founder Regina Ellis said.
