SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Investigators are continuing to search for the driver of a pickup truck who hit a 14-year-old girl and sped off.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said the teen and a friend were crossing Lancaster Drive SE at Durbin Avenue SE at about 7:45 p.m. Friday.

The teens were in a crosswalk and had a walk signal when the truck, heading north on Lancaster, hit the 14-year-old girl.

The victim, identified as Kathryn Staudinger, was transported to Salem Hospital for treatment. She has since transferred to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, where she was listed in serious condition.

Her friend managed to avoid being hit and was not injured.

Witnesses told police it appeared that the truck had accelerated in an effort to beat the light.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a mid 80's Ford pickup, possibly an F150, tan with rust, slightly raised with loud exhaust pipes.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
