PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Attorneys for Mohamed Mohamud have filed an appeal in federal court asking that a judge dismiss the verdict against him or grant him a new trial. His lawyers continue to argue that Mohamud was entrapped by the government and could not have committed the crime on his own.
Mohamud was convicted last month on a charge of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and is due to be sentenced May 14. He was arrested in 2010 by FBI agents after pushing a button that he thought would detonate a bomb during the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Pioneer Square.
