PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A bald eagle was hit by a car on a Portland highway.
Firefighters initially reported the eagle suffered a broken leg. The Audubon Society said it also suffered spinal trauma and will have a CT scan Thursday with a veterinary neurologist to determine the full extent of the damage.
Firefighters were flagged down by a driver on Interstate 84 at 102nd Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A male bald eagle was feeding on something on the side of the freeway when it was hit. Animal control picked it up and took it to the Audubon Society for treatment.
The situation closed one lane of traffic in the area.
Firefighters said the eagle has an eight-foot wingspan.
