Drivers unhurt after serious crash on I-5

Posted: Updated:

A 19-year-old driver lost control getting on the highway, crossed all three northbound lanes while spinning 180 degrees and ended up in a head-on crash with a truck.

It happened at 1:10 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 5 at Nyberg Road in Tualatin.

Investigators said David Cole, 19, was negotiating the northbound onramp when he lost control of his 1991 Acura Integra. A 2011 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by Eric Lundy, 37, of Portland, was unable to avoid a collision.

The front of the truck ran up and over the front of the Acura and the right front wheel assembly came to rest in the windshield of the Acura.

Both vehicles slid into the median where they collided with the concrete barrier and then came to rest.

Neither driver was hurt.

One lane of Interstate 5 was closed for about 40 minutes. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

No citations were issued, but police said the investigation is continuing and enforcement action is still possible.

Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the crash, according to troopers.
