NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon State Police are investigating a rollover crash that happened early Thursday morning involving an unloaded log truck on Highway 101 near the Bob Creek Wayside.

Officers say a log truck was headed northbound on Highway 101 when it encountered several elk standing on the shoulder.

The driver, James Davis, slowed and tried to move around the elk when two of them ran in front of his truck.

Investigators say Davis was unable to avoid the elk and ran into them, causing the log truck to skid off the road and over the embankment.

After rolling off the road, the truck began to leak several gallons of fuel into the passenger cabin.

Oregon Department of Transportation and Northwest Hazmat cleaned up the scene of the wreck.

James Davis walked away from the crash without any injuries.
