COOS BAY, OR (KPTV) -
A derelict boat found on a Coos Bay beach may be debris from the 2011 Japan tsunami.
Crews removed the 30-foot boat from near Horsfall Beach on Thursday afternoon. A contractor took it to Les Sanitation in Coos Bay.
The removal of the boat will cost the state parks department about $2,500.
Parks officials said there was no pollution or other hazardous materials detected, but there was marine life clinging to the boat.
Biologists with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the University of Oregon's Institute of Marine Biology took samples and will send them the marine science center in Newport for identification.
There is Japanese writing on the vessel, but its exact origin and date the boat was lost is unknown.
