Battle Ground man appears in court, charged with friend's death

BATTLE GROUND, WA (KPTV) -

A Battle Ground man is charged with vehicular homicide in the death of a friend.

Ryan Matison, 20, made his first court appearance Monday.

Investigators said he ran a flashing stop sign and slammed into a pickup in November at the intersection of SR 502 and 29th Avenue.

The crash killed Samantha Effingham, 17, who was a passenger in Matison's car.

State troopers state Matison was driving about 60 mph at the time of the crash.

He is out of jail on supervised release and his formal arraignment is set for March 8.
