Nicky Chavez
SALEM, OR (KPTV) -
A man received a life sentence in prison after pleading no contest in a Salem murder case from 2011.
Nicky Chavez was arrested in October 2011 driving south on Interstate 5 near Yreka, CA, after the body of David Polanco, 23, was found in an apartment on Devonshire Avenue.
Polanco was shot multiple times.
Witnesses at the apartment complex described a car leaving the crime scene. California troopers then stopped the 2003 Ford Explorer with Chavez and Jhosuamil Colon-Lebron inside.
Colon-Lebron is currently serving 15 years for robbery and kidnapping. He is due in court on March 12 for his pending murder charge in this case.
Chavez also pleaded no contest to kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the Marion County District Attorney's Office.
He received a life sentence with a mandatory minimum of 30 years before he is eligible for parole.
