KELSO, WA (KPTV) -
A hit-and-run accident ended with a shootout between Kelso police and a wanted suspect.
That shooting injured an officer and left the suspect dead.
Police said the driver of the car took off after the crash and ran into a home on the 400 block of Northwest Eighth Avenue.
At that time, officers determined the suspect had a felony warrant, and they tried to make contact with the suspect at the home.
Police said the suspect refused to come out of a back bedroom for several minutes. Eventually, they said he came out armed with a gun and began firing at police.
One officer was hit by the gunfire. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The suspect was killed after a Kelso police officer and Cowlitz County Sheriff's deputy returned fire on the suspect.
The names of the suspect and the officer have not been released.
The Clark County Regional Major Crimes Task Force is investigating this officer-involved shooting.
More details will be posted as they become available.
