Portland man still in hospital after wife shot to death

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man who surrendered to police before his wife's body was found in their home remained in a Portland hospital Monday.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of 52-year-old Lori Erp. No arrests have been made and her husband, 56-year-old Lloyd Erp, is recovering from a gunshot wound.

Portland police were first called to the Erps' home in the 4200 block of Northeast Campaign Street around 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

That's when a concerned friend from out of state contacted police. He had received an email from Lloyd Erp that led the friend to believe Erp was considering suicide.

Officers tried to make contact with people in the home, but they received no response and had no information about people inside, so they left the area.

Two hours later, Lloyd Erp called 911 and said he was injured and had a gun inside the home, police said.

Police responded and had him come outside, where he was detained and then rushed to a Portland hospital to be treated.

Once police went inside the home, they found Lori Erp had been shot to death.

At this point, no arrests have been made.
