PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Oregon State Sen. Diane Rosenbaum was able to attend voting in Salem on Monday after police said she was hit by an intoxicated driver.

Investigators said it happened Saturday night on the corner of Southwest 11th and Taylor in downtown Portland.

James Gilbert was arrested on charges of DUII and reckless driving.

The crash happened right across from the Portland Library. Police said Gilbert was driving westbound on Taylor and turned south on 11th Avenue when he hit Rosenbaum and her friend.

Rosenbaum was knocked to the ground and hit her head. The friend also suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The senate majority leader represents southeast Portland and Milwaukie in the state senate. Even though she was able to attend Monday's session, she had to leave early.

A friend of Rosenbaum's told Fox 12 she is doing well and should fully recover soon.
