As he took the stage in Las Vegas Wednesday night, Nick Boddington's family and friends cheered on the "American Idol" hopeful from his hometown.

About 75 people gathered for a viewing party at Billygan's Roadhouse to watch the 27-year-old Vancouver native perform in the semifinals.

Boddington was born in Vancouver but moved to Memphis with his parents at age 7, but his roots remain in the Northwest.

"Nick's entire family including his grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles all live here in Vancouver and Portland," said his aunt, Candy Dietz.

Boddington got back behind the piano Wednesday night to perform the song "Iris" by the Goo-Goo Dolls. Overall, the judges reviews were positive, but his spot on in the top ten will come down to the votes.

Boddington is no stranger to the show. He was eliminated last season in Las Vegas. But that set back wasn't about to stop him from trying again.

"He just spent the last year developing as an artist and has taken it all the way this time,"  Dietz said.

This time his family thinks he has what it takes to win the competition.

"He felt like he didn't give it his all last year," said his uncle, Brian Dietz. "That's why he's giving it everything this year. It's about redemption this year because he knows he has it."

Results will be revealed Thursday night on "American Idol."
