PRINEVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

A log truck snagged power lines near Prineville, ripped the poles out of the ground and scattered 500 feet of wires along the ground.

It happened at 11:10 a.m. Thursday on Wainwright Road in Crook County.

Deputies arrived to find two power poles pulled down surrounded by broken power lines. The lines were also tangled up in the log truck.

Investigators said the driver, John Waterman, 57, of Prineville, had a load exceeding the maximum height requirements of 14 feet by 2 feet.

Waterman was given a ticket by deputies.

Waterman said he was driving 35 mph when the logs hit the power lines.

Around 200 customers lost power in the area for as long as five hours.

Deputies required the driver to have a loader go to the scene and take his load of logs down to the legal limit before he could continue on. The road was closed for two hours.
