The Oregon Department of Transportation is cracking down on non-certified moving companies.
In a sting using a decoy house in Gresham, ODOT and Multnomah County Sheriffs teamed up to bust moving companies without a license. Once company representatives arrived at the home, officers checked out drivers and equipment for any violations.
In all, 25 citations were issued Tuesday, two of which were for driving without insurance.
ODOT is using this sting as a stark reminder to hire certified moving companies. They stress that uninsured operations put consumers at a higher risk of property damage and identity theft.
A list of certified moving companies can be found at www.oregon.gov/ODOT/MCT/Pages/MOVERS.aspx.
