NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -
It was two years ago today, March 11, that an earthquake and tsunami hit parts of Japan.
Since that day, several pieces of tsunami debris have washed up along the west coast, including Washington and Oregon.
In June of 2012, a 66-foot dock washed ashore at Agate Beach.
Since then, crews have cut the dock into pieces and removed it. One of those pieces was unveiled Sunday as part of an exhibit about the Japanese earthquake and tsunami at the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport.
The exhibit also highlights the journey of the dock from Japan to Oregon.
Researchers say the dock will also serve as a memorial to those who lost their lives.
