PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Police said the "person of interest" in the murders of his girlfriend and her teenage daughter was been found dead at a Phoenix hotel.
Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump said Michael Blanco, 41, was found dead at Knights Inn at 1524 N. Black Canyon Hwy. on Tuesday afternoon. Crump said a maintenance worker discovered his body.
Crump said Blanco died of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He said he had barricaded himself inside, with furniture blocking the door. He had also shaved his head, possibly in an attempt to conceal his identity.
The bodies of Blanco's girlfriend and her teenage daughter were found inside a Phoenix home Monday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Christina Wilson, 42, and her 14-year-old daughter, Vanessa, according to Crump.
Officials said just after 1 p.m. Monday they got a call that a family member who also lives in the home came home to find the door locked. When he finally got in, he told investigators he found the pair dead. The crime scene is near 25th Street and McDowell Road.
Police said the victims had obvious trauma to their bodies, and neighbors heard shots fired Sunday between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Crump said officers were looking for Blanco, who lived with Christina Wilson but was not seen for a couple of days. He checked into the motel on Monday, Crump said, around the same time the victims' bodies were discovered.
While police have to run some ballistics and DNA tests, they said they believe they have the murderer.
"To see all of this happen to one of your family members, two of your family members, it's heartbreaking," said Christina Wilson's cousin, Andrew Rugnao.
Tuesday night, the family held a vigil at the home to pay their respects.
"Vanessa and Chris were like peas in a pod, they pretty much wouldn't go anywhere without each other," said Nicole Adame, Christina Wilson's cousin.
"She was really sweet and if you needed her she was always right there, just a phone call away," Amanda Bailey said of Vanessa Wilson. "Out of all people, why her? She did nothing wrong, she always kept to herself."
A family member posted on Facebook they will hold a car wash Friday at Christina Wilson's place of business, Vitamist Spray Vitamins, at 2401 S. 24th St. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and another one on Saturday at the Pep Boys at 2502 W. Van Buren St.
"It's just going to be a long, long road, but we have a close-knit family and friends, and we'll get through this," Adame said.
