SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A wolf's remarkable journey has brought it back to Oregon.

The wandering wolf known as Journey crossed back into Oregon Tuesday night.

The wolf, formerly known as OR-7, gained attention worldwide when it was fitted with a radio tracking collar by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in 2011.

The collar allowed wildlife workers to track its 3,000-mile trip from the Wallowa Range and Eagle Cap Wilderness in northeastern Oregon across the state and finally into California on Dec. 28, 2011.

Journey became the first wolf confirmed west of the Cascades since 1947 and the first confirmed wolf in California since 1924.

Journey returned to Oregon, entering the state Tuesday in southwest Klamath County.

Wildlife workers believe Journey may cross back into California again and then continue to use areas in both states.

ODFW does not release regular updates about Journey's movements. CDFW, however, provided daily updates on Journey's location in California.

If the wolf crosses back into California, you can find those updates at californiagraywolf.wordpress.com.

Wolves are protected throughout Oregon by the state's Endangered Species Act, and west of U.S. Route 395 and 95 and Oregon Route 78 wolves are also protected by the federal Endangered Species Act.
