PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A woman running to catch a TriMet bus was struck by a car in southeast Portland on Friday morning.

Witnesses said the woman suddenly attempted to run across the road to try to get to the bus stop in time for the bus near Southeast 120th Avenue and Foster Road.

Police said the woman used a marked crosswalk, but she didn't make sure traffic was stopped before running into the road.

A westbound car crashed into the woman, who suffered traumatic injuries. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital, where she's expected to survive.

The driver of the westbound car stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

No citations have been issued.

The car was towed from the scene by the owner's request.
