ST. PAUL, OR (KPTV) -
The St. Paul Rodeo has canceled its wild horse race for 2013 after a collision led to the deaths of two horses a year ago.
"The Board of Directors has voted to not host the Wild Horse Race at the St. Paul Rodeo this year," said a statement on the rodeo's Facebook page.
The rodeo will otherwise go on as normal July 2-6 in St. Paul.
The wild horse race features riders trying to saddle and mount a horse, and then ride the horse into an opening on the opposite side of the rodeo grandstand.
In 2012, the two horses collided head-on, as seen in a YouTube video posted by a spectator.
An on-site veterinarian said the horse suffered head and neck trauma before it was put down. The second horse also died from its injuries, the Statesman Journal reports.
