SALEM, OR (KPTV) -
A man is accused of breaking into a Willamette University building and trying to pry open a vending machine.
Salem police were called to an educational building at 1050 State St. at 4 a.m. Saturday.
A campus safety officer called police and reported a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, it was determined a window had been forced open on the building.
Once the building was surrounded by officers, announcements were made that a K-9 team was going to go inside and search for the suspect.
Police said Jeffrey Sinclair, 51, then ran out the door. He was quickly subdued by officers.
Investigators said he had tried to get inside a vending machine in the building. Sinclair was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief.
