PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A man got more than he bargained for when he tried to rob a deli in southeast Portland at gunpoint.
An employee and two customers fought him off, chasing him out the door of Nick's Double-Up Deli at 8028 SE Powell Blvd.
The would-be robber went into the store at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The deli employee, who asked to be identified only by his first name, Guan, said the man showed him a gun and demanded money.
Surveillance video shows the man walk behind the counter.
When a woman walked into the deli, the man put his arm behind his back.
"He [sees] the customer, so he [tried] to put down his gun, try to hide it," Guan told Fox 12.
With the man distracted, the employee grabbed for the gun and tried to wrestle it away.
Surveillance video shows two customers running over to help. The trio wrestled with the would-be robber, who eventually broke free and ran out the door.
In the scuffle, the man left behind a loaded magazine cartridge, a shoe and a pair of sunglasses, according to Guan.
Guan suffered a minor hand injury but did not require medical attention. The two customers who helped in the struggle with the suspect were not hurt.
Police described the suspect as a white man in his mid 30s, 5'8" to 6' tall with a medium build and wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Portland Police Bureau's robbery detail at 503-823-0405.
