ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -

There's a lot of clean up work to be done at Astoria Middle School.

On Saturday, officers responded to the camps after receiving a report of vandalism.

Police said they found a significant amount of damage, including discharged fire extinguishers, broken doors and lockers and vandalized student art projects.

They also found lewd messages scrawled on walls, floors, cloth bulletin boards and on instruments.

Police said the troublemakers also broke into a school food cart and stole food.

There's no word yet how much it's going to cost to fix the damage, but it's expected to be significant, police said.

Many surfaces that were written on require replacement or refurbishment.

Several drum heads, and at least one instrument need to be replaced, officers told FOX 12.

According to police, they identified 12 suspects in the case, and at least nine admitted to some involvement.

Only one of the suspects is over 18 years old.

The investigation is continuing, but detectives said that because the damage was done during a time when the school was closed, the suspects face the potential charge of burglary II.

Anyone with information into the burglary should contact school resource officer Matt Clausen at 503-325-4411.
