CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -
A 36-year-old woman was arrested Monday after police found her driving in a parking lot with her 4-year-old child unrestrained in the back seat of the vehicle.
Alison Stewart, 36, was booked into jail on a number of charges, including child abuse, endangering the life and health of a minor and a drug paraphernalia violation.
Stewart dropped off her 4-year-old child with a man for 10 minutes while she went to look for her other child, according to a probable cause statement. The court document did not explain her connection to the man.
After 45 minutes passed by, the man grew concerned and began to look for her, the document stated. He found her passed out in the front seat of her vehicle in a nearby parking lot, according to the statement.
As he called police, Stewart woke up and placed her 4-year-old child in the back seat unrestrained, according to officers.
Stewart then began to drive around the parking lot. Chandler police arrived and the officer stopped her. As a certified drug recognition expert, the officer determined she was under the influence of drugs or prescription medication, the court document stated.
Stewart was taken to the Chandler Police Department. An officer who remained at the scene found a glass meth pipe in her purse, according to the probable cause statement.
She was booked into jail.
