NORTH POWDER, OR (KPTV) -

High wind gusts were a possible factor in a commercial truck and trailer tipping onto their side Wednesday afternoon along Interstate 84 about five miles west of North Powder. The crash blocked most of Interstate 84 eastbound until it was cleared.

According to Senior Oregon State Police Trooper Ryan Moorehead, a semi-tractor pulling an empty trailer was traveling on Interstate 84 eastbound near milepost 280 Wednesday afternoon. The truck was driven by 38-year-old Michael Corpuz from Santa Maria, CA.

Corpuz said a strong wind gust tipped the truck and trailer onto their side as he was driving. The truck and trailer came to rest blocking the inside shoulder and a majority of both traffic lanes. Corpuz was not transported to a hospital but did receive a minor injury during the incident.

Moorehead was about five miles from the crash when he was dispatched to the scene. He confirmed there were extreme wind gusts, sleet and heavy rain in the area at the time.

OSP troopers from La Grande and Baker City responded to the incident along with North Powder Quick Response, the Island City Fire Department, and ODOT.
