Feds: Man jailed in Mexico denies he's Logan Storm

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man in custody in Mexico is denying he is wanted fugitive Logan Storm, a former Beaverton teacher convicted of child pornography charges last month.

Law enforcement told FOX 12 last week that Storm was arrested in Mexico, and federal officials said in a hearing Thursday they believe the man jailed in Mexico is indeed Storm.

They want Storm to return to the U.S., but there have been no formal extradition hearings or identification hearings in Mexico so far.

Because Storm, or at least the man believed to be him, is in the custody of Mexican authorities and not U.S. agents, prosecutors said Storm's defense team doesn't have legal authority to contact him.

But the defense has asked for Storm's location so they can communicate with him and prepare him for sentencing.

They argued he was arrested in Mexico on a U.S. warrant, and they have the right to contact him.

For now, the judge has told both sides to gather their arguments on whether or not the government should disclose Storm's location. They'll discuss it at a future hearing, but no date has been set.

Before his supposed arrest in Mexico, Storm hadn't been seen since the day he was convicted of possessing child porn back on Jan. 29. He was released from custody, pending his sentencing, but disappeared that same day and dumped his ankle monitoring device at a Troutdale park.

Since then, new allegations against Storm have surfaced. He is accused of abusing two underage girls at a public swimming pool at the Mt. Scott Community Center in 2007.

Storm is a former teacher at Stoller Middle School in Beaverton.

This is the second time he has fled from authorities. When a search warrant was served at his home in 2010, he left the state, drove to Canada and boarded a plane to London. He spent the next nine months in Europe before he returned to the U.S. and marshals arrested him at the airport.
